RESTORE. REBUILD. RECLAIM. RETURN.

Movement, Strength & Longevity Coaching for Chronic Pain and Old Injuries

Movement without fear. Strength for the moments that matter. Freedom to explore again. To the adventures still ahead of you.

You didn't stop being active because you aged. You stopped because pain made you lose confidence. We help busy professionals, parents, and older adults move from pain to play, by restoring safety, rebuilding capacity, and reclaiming an active life.

Scroll

It was never about the pain in your knee. Or your back.

It's about the hike you stopped booking. The floor time with your kid you started sitting out. The trip you now plan around a flare-up instead of a destination.

All the little things you pushed away, because you were told you can't. You were told wrong.

The Bigger Picture

Why Pain Keeps Coming Back (It's Not Just Age)

Pain is rarely one thing. It's the sum of what your body can carry, what your life is asking of it, and everything quietly feeding into that: sleep, stress, nutrition, training history, old injuries, and the demands you stopped preparing for. That's why single-answer advice keeps missing. It fixes one piece and leaves the rest untouched.

Capacity is one of the most common pieces we find missing. Every bridge has a weight rating. Every truck has a load. Nobody has ever shown you yours.

"Sometimes you can't get from pain to play because your bridge doesn't have the capacity to carry the load of your truck."

The belief in your own head "I'm just getting older. This is what happens."

Age is one factor among many, and it's not the one holding most people back. What your body can carry stays trainable: at 40, at 55, at 70. The number on your birth certificate doesn't set the ceiling.

The belief a clear scan leaves behind "The scan is clear. So this must be as good as it gets."

A scan or a diagnosis is a starting point, not a verdict. It's a reason to get curious, not to stop. Imaging shows something real, and there are absolutely times when medical treatment is the right call. What a scan can't show you is what you're still capable of building. That part is far more within your control than most people realise.

Rested, Rehabbed and Still in Pain?

Rest. Modify. Avoid. It made sense, and it worked, for a while.
But nobody ever handed you a guide for what came next.

⚠

"That's bad for your knees, stop it."

Every flare-up gets met with the same six words. So you drop the activity instead of building the capacity it asked for, and the list of things you've dropped keeps growing.

Avoidance Sold as Advice

The quiet negotiation

"I'll skip the hike this weekend." "I'll just watch from the sidelines today." Trading one yes at a time, until one day you notice exactly how small your world has become.

Outsourcing your body

A therapist, a device, a treatment. You hand your body to whoever you saw last. The relief is real, and it lasts about as long as the gap to your next appointment.

Relief Without Capacity
Derrick Loy, founder of Project RE
"Ten years ago, I stood at the bottom of a stairwell, calculating if my knee could handle three flights with my kid in my arms. Healthcare's answer was always rest and avoid. Nobody ever handed me a guide for what came next, so I built my own. Now I help people do the same."

Too Healthy for the Clinic. Too Broken for the Gym.

High-functioning in life, but limited in the body? You're exactly who Project RE was built for.

Exercise Alone Doesn't Get You Out of Pain

You wouldn't drive a truck across a bridge nobody has rated. Same rule applies to your body: you don't guess your capacity, you assess it. That's the foundation of the work we do together.

01

Restore

Pain Intelligence & Education

We assess your body rather than guess at it: your movement, your history, and the real load your life asks you to carry. Then we make sense of it, so you understand why it hurts and what's actually in your control.

02

Rebuild

Capacity Building & Movement

No templates. We build the capacity your body actually demands, based on what you need right now, and we work the small levers that move everything: sleep, food, training, water, stress, mindset.

03

Reclaim

The Safety Anchor & Mentorship

We coach you back into the things you've been sitting out. The finish line isn't "back to normal." It's knowing why a flare-up happened and exactly what to build back, so it never shrinks your life again.

Is Project RE the Right Fit for You?

We're clear about who we help, and equally clear about who we don't. Nobody can rebuild your capacity for you, so this only works if you want to be the one who does it.

✓ Project RE is for you if...

  • ✓ You're a busy professional, parent, or older adult (35 to 70) with aches, old injuries, or a diagnosis that keeps narrowing what you'll say yes to.
  • ✓ You want the capacity to hike, play sport, travel, or keep up with your kids and grandkids without negotiating with your body first.
  • ✓ You want to understand what's driving your pain and what's within your control, not just be handed exercises.
  • ✓ You're ready to take responsibility for the small levers that move everything: sleep, food, training, water, stress, mindset.

✕ Project RE is NOT for you if...

  • ✕ You're looking for a quick crack or a rub-down to mask the pain until next week.
  • ✕ You want a generic plan built around vanity, fat loss, or muscle gain.
  • ✕ You want something done to you, rather than a framework you'll learn to run yourself.
  • ✕ You're dealing with sudden or rapidly worsening pain, recent surgery without clearance, or numbness, tingling, and weakness. Please see a medical professional first.

From Pain to Play: Client Stories

Every client who gets back to what they love becomes proof for someone else who was told to accept less.

Back & Knee · Early 40s

Three Years Inactive. Now Training for a Marathon.

The Pain

Building a career while studying for a master's, when back and knee pain took running and exercise off the table. Three years inactive. A string of healthcare visits left her with conflicting diagnoses, a prescription, and a list of alternative activities she had no interest in, so she stopped moving altogether.

The Shift

There wasn't one breakthrough moment. It was a stack of small wins: clarity on what was actually driving the pain, an understanding of what was in her control and what wasn't, and capacity that built week over week.

The Play

Back in fitness classes. Back to running. Training for a marathon, alongside a full career and a master's program. But the real shift isn't the mileage. It's that she no longer sees herself as broken.

Knee · 44, Dad

A Second Knee Surgery Was Already on the Calendar.

The Pain

A 44-year-old dad with a second knee surgery already booked. No real answer for why the knee kept acting up. Just a date, and a life quietly organising itself around it.

The Shift

A few weeks in, real clarity on why the knee kept flaring. Six months in, real capacity, built deliberately rather than guessed at.

The Play

A weekend football game with mates. Pickleball. A full day out with his kids. A holiday without holding anyone back. Surgery is still on the table if he ever needs it. The point isn't that he avoided it, it's that he got the information and the capacity to decide, instead of deciding blind.

Shoulder · 20 Years of Pain

"I Would Roll My Eyes at You."

The Pain

Twenty years of shoulder pain, and every reason to believe it was permanent. By then, "I've already tried everything" wasn't cynicism. It was just an accurate summary.

The Shift

Not one breakthrough. A rating of what the shoulder could actually carry, then capacity rebuilt against it: the small, unglamorous work stacking up over months.

The Play

In their words: "If you told me a year ago that it is possible to move freely and not think of the discomfort in my shoulder, I would roll my eyes at you."

See yourself in one of those, but not quite?

Yours has lasted longer. Yours has a name on a scan. You're older than they were. You've already tried more than they did.

Maybe you're right. And that's worth finding out properly, rather than deciding it alone, for another year.

Chronic Pain & Recovery Coaching FAQs

Each of them plays a real role: a diagnosis, treatment, short-term relief, a set of exercises. Together, they got you "cleared." We don't replace that, and we don't diagnose or treat injuries.

But healthcare is busy. Appointments are short, often weeks apart, and rarely leave time for your sleep, your stress or the load that built up in the first place. So most people leave with a list of exercises, unsure if they're doing them right or whether they're making a difference, if they get round to them at all.

That's the gap we fill: regular coaching between and beyond those appointments, a plan that changes as you progress, and someone checking it's working. If you're still stuck, you didn't fail the plan. It was built for a different job.

A gym measures progress in weight lifted and weight lost. A clinic measures it by your scan and the joint that hurts. Project RE measures it by your life: the hike, the weekend game, the adventure holiday, playing with your kids (or grandkids) without thinking twice.

A personal trainer builds fitness in people who can already train hard. We start where you are today: an assessment of how you move, a strength plan built around what your body can handle right now, and coaching through the doubts and setbacks along the way.

Project RE is a good fit for most active adults, whether you're dealing with nagging aches, an old injury, years of inactivity or a diagnosed chronic condition.

It's not the right starting point if you have sudden or rapidly worsening pain, pain after a recent fall or accident, recent surgery without medical clearance, new or worsening numbness, tingling or weakness, unexplained weight loss or fever, pain at night that doesn't ease with rest or changing position, or changes in bladder or bowel control. Please see a doctor first.

If you're managing a chronic condition or you're unsure, email me at derrickloy@projectre.com.sg before booking. I'll work with you, and your doctor where it helps, to find the right starting point.

A scan shows what a joint looks like, not what it can carry. Arthritis, disc bulges, tears and wear show up on the scans of plenty of people who move well and feel fine, while others with clean scans hurt every day.

What matters is capacity: what your body can actually handle. That's what we assess, and what we build together.

No. Capacity does change with age, but it stays trainable at every age. People in their 80s and 90s still build strength with the right training.

"This is just what happens when you get old" is a belief that quietly gives you permission to avoid life, one activity at a time. Age changes how we build your capacity, not whether we can.

If you want to keep living an active life, there's always a chance you'll feel pain along the way. That's the cost of staying in the game, not a flaw in the plan.

So we don't chase "pain-free." We keep you doing what you love while how you feel improves: more weight, more volume, more time playing, with confidence even when some discomfort shows up. Most clients notice a difference in what they can do and how they feel within the first 4 to 6 weeks.

We put it simply: live more, hurt less.

There will always be something: kids, work, a new job, a new home. Waiting for a quieter season usually means waiting indefinitely.

Most clients train twice a week for up to an hour. If you get through the session's work sooner, you're done and on to the rest of your day. The exact method and frequency come from your assessment.

But the hours we spend together are only part of it. We coach you on the habits outside the gym, like how you sleep, move and handle flare-ups, so pain stops holding you back long after our sessions end.

It starts with a free 15-minute clarity call, so we can both check this is worth your time. If it is, your first session is a 90-minute consultation. We learn your history, the activities you care about and the life built around them, look at how your body actually moves, and map out a plan phase by phase.

If it feels right, you can start straight away. If not, you still leave with a summary of our findings to keep and use however you like.

If we work together in person, you'll train in our gym during sessions, so you don't need a membership. On a remote program, it depends on your needs and goals: some plans use only bands and bodyweight, others need gym access. We'll tell you which applies before you start.

Stop Watching From the Bench.

Your body isn't broken. Pain may not be your choice, but your comeback is. Let's find out what's actually driving it, and build the roadmap back to the active things you love.
